Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Joint Postgraduate Studies programme (J.P.P.S.) “Conference Interpreting and Translation”: Graduate participates in Translating Europe Forum

In November 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in the Translating Europe Forum, a three-day event that focused on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on translation and terminology extraction, a theme which provided valuable insights into how AI is reshaping the translation industry. 

The forum also provided a unique platform for in-depth discussions about the future of the industry, particularly from the perspectives of both freelance translators and translation agencies. The sessions were enlightening, covering topics such as the role of AI in language services and its potential to revolutionise the way we approach translation. Throughout the event, I also attended engaging speeches that covered the future of terminology extraction and its implications for language professionals. 

One of the most inspiring aspects of the event was hearing from young professionals who shared their journeys of entrepreneurship and success in the language industry, offering valuable advice for newcomers like me. This was a great source of inspiration for me as a recent EMT graduate, as I’m just beginning to carve out my own path. I also had the privilege of engaging with the speakers and panelists during networking breaks, which allowed me to ask questions and gain further insights into their experiences. Connecting with fellow EMT students was another highlight of the forum, as we exchanged thoughts on our language combinations, university programmes and aspirations within the industry. It was truly motivating to speak with like-minded individuals who share the same passion for translation. 

A particularly memorable moment was when we were warmly welcomed by Mr. Christos Ellinides, the Director-General of the Directorate-General for Translation of the European Commission, who encouraged us to continue developing our skills and to pursue our specialisations with dedication. This event was an incredibly rewarding experience that broadened my perspective and deepened my enthusiasm for the translation field. I am truly grateful to the European Commission for organising such an inspiring event and would highly recommend it to anyone in the translation industry, especially fellow EMT students looking to connect with professionals and gain valuable insights into the evolving landscape of translation.
